Clause 6.9.3 of IEEE 1584-2018 notes that a low-voltage circuit breaker manufacturer's time-current curve normally includes both the trip and the clearing time, that a curve published for a retrofit trip unit may show trip-unit time only and then needs the breaker operating time added, and that for a current-limiting breaker operating above its current-limiting threshold the manufacturer's recommendation is followed. Clause 6.9.4 builds the clearing time of a relay-operated circuit breaker from the relay operating time, the breaker interrupting time of opening plus arcing, and any lockout relay and tolerance delays, pointing to IEEE C37.010-2016 and IEEE 551-2006 for the breaker and system quantities.
