Data record std.ieee-1584.structure.arc-duration

Verified 2026-10-24 Confidence: High

Clause 6.9.1 of IEEE 1584-2018 takes the arc duration to run until the last energizing source stops feeding the arc. Ground-fault relays normally receive no credit, definite-time devices such as differential, optical arc-flash and pressure relays are credited at their operating time, every intervening delay counts, and where a time-current curve shows a band the reading is the longest time on the band at the calculated current, taken at both the arcing current and the reduced arcing current.
